eEarly – Platform for early detection of health symptoms
eEarly is a European open-source platform for collecting and analyzing health-related biometric data. There are many affordable biometric sensors available that can be used for the early detection of potential health symptoms in the European population. Early treatment leads to better outcomes, a healthier population, and lower healthcare costs. This ultimately results in a healthier society that is aware of its health risks and has fewer absences from work.
The platform can be used in scientific organizations and institutions, where data remains within each individual institution (i.e., it is not centrally stored in the cloud). Because the data is sensitive, artificial intelligence models for detecting early symptoms are trained locally at each participating site. Using federated learning, only model updates or insights are shared, enabling the development of a robust model without exposing raw data.
The main goal of the project is to establish a distributed open-source platform in which participants can share data under institutional control; where scientists and healthcare organizations can exchange algorithms for detecting health symptoms; and where new disease patterns are identified in large volumes of distributed data using federated approaches. The platform is based on cloud-edge technologies provided by other partners within IPCEI-CIS, ensuring full European sovereignty of the platform.
Expertise in the field of biometric sensing is being developed within IPCEI CIS, from which the 8ra initiative originates.
